Periodontal Care

TO OUR NEW PATIENTS
When you think of going to the dentist
You may just think of preventing cavities. But gum health is every bit as important as keeping cavities at bay. No matter what age you may be, taking care of your gums is an essential part of good oral health, which is why we are pleased to offer periodontal care to our patients from throughout the Cedar Park, Texas area.
How to Know if You Have Gum Disease
When it comes to gum disease, we have some good news: if it’s caught in the early stages, gum disease can be completely resolved in most patients. Although you may not realize that you are in the early stages of this condition, there are some indications that you may be experiencing problems with your gums, including:
- Tender gums
- Swollen gums
- Gums that bleed easily
Your dentist can tell you whether you have gum disease during your routine exams and cleanings. You can help to prevent this condition by maintaining a daily oral hygiene routine at home that includes flossing and brushing. Additional practices that may help ward off gum disease are use of a water spraying device and an anti-gingivitis mouthwash.
What Causes Gum Disease?

Periodontal Care and Treatment
Your dentist will recommend the appropriate treatment to return you and your gums to good oral health. The exact nature of the treatment will depend, to a large extent, on how far the gum disease has progressed. For some patients, a deep cleaning at the dentist’s office, followed by good oral hygiene habits at home, may be enough. Other patients may require medications, while others may require oral surgery in order to resolve the issue.
