We offer three types of sedation dentistry for our patients and their families.
Sedation Dentistry Methods
Different people experience different levels of anxiety during their dental visits, so we offer varying types of sedation dentistry for our patients:
- Oral sedation: Just as the name implies, oral sedation is administered in the form of a pill. Typically, patients who receive oral sedation are awake throughout their visit, but feel very much at ease and relaxed. The level of relaxation provided by oral sedation varies depending on the strength of the dosage, but most people feel groggy afterwards, so you should arrange for a ride home after your visit.
- Nitrous oxide: Usually referred to as “laughing gas,” this type of sedation is inhaled by the patient and earns its name from how it makes you feel – totally relaxed and just a little bit giddy. Nitrous oxide allows patients to remain awake throughout their procedures, but very much at ease. Since the effects wear off quickly, you should be able to drive yourself home after your visit.
