Types of Dentures
In the most general sense, there are two types of dentures available to patients: full and partial sets. Full sets are designed for people who have no teeth at all, and partial sets are intended to replace one or a few teeth. Partials are comprised of one or more artificial teeth in a metal frame. Partial dentures are usually removable by the patient for cleaning.
Full or complete sets of dentures come in two varieties: conventional and immediate.
- Cоnvеntіоnаl full dеnturеs: The more traditional type of full denture is called conventional. These dental appliances are fitted for the patient after all teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has completely healed.
- Immediate full dentures: Immediate dentures differ from conventional dentures in that they are fitted for the patient immediately after the teeth are extracted. This type of denture requires relining as the gum tissue heals and the gums and bones change shape somewhat during that process.
